Dear TLCDHH members,
After two years in the board as president of the Texas Latino Council of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing organization, I want to thank you all for your support. Even though some of you probably do already know me, I will start by introducing myself. My name is Carlos Mendez, and I am from Guatemala. This will be my third year living in Austin, Texas, having benefited from and contributed to the activities of the TLCDHH.
I’d like to welcome all returning members from previous years as well as the new members joining us. For the new members, here is a quick introduction to what exactly Texas Latino Council of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing organization is and does; it is a non-profit organization for the expatriates of Deaf Latino Texans. The membership fee is used to organize different activities for our community, promoting social contact and relationships between the members. On top of that, we support community and service organizations assisting members to gain a better understanding and appreciation for Deaf Latino culture.
During the fall and winter, working together with Rogelio Fernandez, the TLCDHH website has been renewed and will be available for all members starting now; www.tlcdhh.org. All information will be available on the website, such as dates for activities, registrations, pictures etc. TLCDHH has Facebook page for all members, offering a new way of communication between members of the organization. We invite you all to use this new tool.
With the contribution of the hard working board, I am looking forward to sharing new experiences and activities with all the members during next year! After all, I am looking forward to work with the new executive board. We are very excited about the programs and opportunities that lie ahead for the organization. This year promises to be one filled with new experiences, positive learning encounters, and memorable moments.
Carlos Mendez
TLCDHH President
